If you have completed a Basic Beginners Class, Riverlea Sampler Class or a Rotary Cutting Class at Riverlea during the last 15 years you may be interested in joining our Quilter’s Circle. We meet once a month and for your annual joining fee of $100 you are entitled to 10% discount on fabric purchases on night of the meeting. At each meeting there will be a demonstration of a new technique or product, a project for the year (this year we are exploring the 2 BLOCK QUILT and each month we will have a BOOK REVIEW) Show and Tell, a Guest Quilter at some meetings and lots of friendship and laughs, plus supper.

Class List Term 2 2009

A Little Bit About Riverlea
Riverlea Cottage Quilts was established in 1989 by Lyn Uppill in her farmhouse at Salter Springs. The shop moved to Unley in 1993 and has since expanded taking up an adjoining shop, which is now the workroom where classes are held during school terms.
The shop boasts 4000 + bolts of fabric and caters for all tastes and arguably has the best range of quilting fabrics in South Australia. You can browse through the shop and choose from wonderful brights or fabulous batiks, through to an extensive range of African, and Reproduction prints. We have one of the largest ranges of Japanese fabrics is SA including Traditional Japanese.
Even if you are just visiting Adelaide, South Australia make sure you put Riverlea Cottage Quilts on your itinerary. If you aren't planning a trip ring or e-mail us, we will gladly cater to mail order if you can't make it to the shop.

Buck A Block
Would you like to make a quilt for just $4 per block. All you need to do is visit the shop once a month to pick up your pattern and fabric for $4. The pattern uses Thangles so the purchase of one packet of Thangles is advised and this will be enough to make the entire quilt. There are several choices, Brights, Bali, Autumn and Japanese Indigo (due to the higher cost of Japanese fabrics this will be $5 per month).
The blocks will be available for the Calendar Month except for January which will be continue to be available through February to give you time to get started. If you are new to Thangles, visit the shop and see the samples.
Block of the Month
A KALEIDOSCOPE OF KOLOR
$29.95 per month, for a Queen size quilt kit.
You can choose either light or dark background.
Join us each month while doing this block of the month including hints and tips on all techniques used to create this stunning quilt.

Newsletter April 09

Welcome to Autumn. Although the season has changed the rain still seems like a far away thought.
As the nights get cooler we begin to want the warmth of our hand quilting projects on our laps.
We have had a busy term with another soon to follow; our class list is almost completed and will be available shortly.


Fabrics

Objects of Desire
Another range by Sandy Gervais. A range of yellow, blue, orange and green, shoes, floral, and spots, and tone on tone. Available in jelly rolls, sweet rolls, layer cakes also.
New Japanese fabrics Even more fabrics arrived including a wonderful range of Japanese Jacquards,
more large Sashiko panels have arrived, along with textured indigos, creams and rusts.
Snippets Another story from American Jane by Sandy Klop. This range has stripes, dots, floral. With this range is the dress up doll and sewing pattern designs. Available in jelly rolls, layer cakes, sweet rolls etc
Tranquility by Moda. A Sandy Gervais designed range with co-ordinating panel in rich brown, blue green orange colours. The wide stripe in this range is well worth a look. We have it available in jelly rolls, sweet rolls, layer cake, and charm pack. A great autumn range. A favourite with the staff!
Swanky by Chez Moi. This Moda range is bright with florals paisley dots and spots, great for that teenager in your life. Also available in sweet rolls, and layer cakes As it sounds this range is bright summery and almost good enough to eat!
Hungry Caterpillar. Panel and matching fabrics have arrived, as you would guess walking out the door. Be quick, so you don’t miss again.
Nursery Rhyme. This delightful range has a block panel, border and all over print. Great to revisit our nursery rhymes with our children. Easy range for that “need it quick” baby quilt.
Play Date. Twenty wonderful brights, great co-ordinators for the Hungry Caterpillar panel.
African Sunset Safari. This panel is as it sounds in sunset colours with matching strips, novelty, and geometric prints.

New Books

Big Blocks Easy Quilts by Suzanne McNeill.
A book with many designs for all the layer cakes you have collected and now know what to do with them!
Strip-Frenzy. Another book by Suzanne McNeill, this one using Jelly Rolls. Some designs including applique
Strips or Squares. This book has easy quilt patterns with jelly roll or layer cakes.
Making Kimono and Japanese Clothes. This practical and creative sourcebook for anyone inspired by the elegant design of Japanese clothes, includes patterns.
Japanese Quilt Blocks. Hooray this book has finally arrived back in stock. So if you missed out be quick. It is a most inspirational book of over 125 patchwork, appliqué and Sashiko designs.

February Newsletter

Welcome to 2009. Hope you have managed to keep cool.
What a year it has been so far. Our thoughts are with our fellow Australians that have had to deal with floods and fires. What a beautiful yet at times cruel country we live in.
We have had an exciting start to 2009. Lyn has recently returned from Japan with even more goodies, if you can imagine that is possible!
Our classes have filled fast, so book quickly; we are already on second and filling fast Sweet Treats Class!

Fabrics

New Japanese fabrics We have two new Indigo’s, they have a lovely linen mix perfect for Sashiko. Lyn has returned from Japan with even more gorgeous Sashiko threads variegated and plain, Panels large and small including Cranes, kimono, animals and more.
Swanky by Chez Moi. Layer Cakes, Sweet Rolls, and Turn Overs have arrived. As you would guess these are great for the bright summer quilt.
Tradition from Collection for a Cause, supporting Unicef. This warm autumn tones is available in layer cakes and jelly rolls.
Oh-Cherry-Oh by Me & My Sister, Moda.
As it sounds this range is bright summery and almost good enough to eat! We have jelly rolls, sweet rolls.

William Morris in Applique by Michele Hill. We congratulate Michele on her magnificent achievement with this book. We have already sold out of our first shipment next is selling fast so be quick.
200 Quilting Tips, Techniques & Trade Secrets by Susan Briscoe. Many of you would know of Susan through Sashiko books, this is a great quilting book covering various tips and techniques including big hand stitched quilting and more ways to finish your quilts.
Jelly Roll Quilts by. Designs by Kathy Brown. This book helps you make 5 fun and easy quilts, including a picnic tote.
Dream Landscapes by Rose Hughes. This book will help you make artful quilts with simple piecing, fast piece appliqué, plus embellishments, following nature’s lines. Project patterns included.

has begun again; Did you put your name on the list and in the heat forgot to come and decide on colour? Pop in to the shop check out the samples and choose your colour. Some changes have been made this year. Colour choices available are Indigo, Autumn, Bright, Batik, no extra charge for additional blocks, the other conditions still apply; All you need to do is visit the shop once a month to pick up your pattern and fabric for $4 (except Indigo which is $5/month due to the higher cost of Japanese fabric)

At each meeting there will be a demonstration of a new technique or product, a project for the year (this year we are exploring the 2 BLOCK QUILT and each month we will have a BOOK REVIEW) Show and Tell, a Guest Quilter at some meetings and lots of friendship and laughs, plus supper.

Christmas Club
Meet once a month on a Wednesday night and join in the Christmas fun all year. Make a Xmas quilt (this year there will be a Mystery quilt for you to join in ) or there will be small projects for you to choose from. The only rule is for that night it has to have a Xmas Theme.
On Xmas Club night you get 10% off Xmas Fabric, Books & Patterns.

JAPANESE CLUB
Join our brand new Japanese Club if you love Japanese Textiles, Quilts and small Japanese treasures.
Meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon and learn new techniques, make some wonderful small quilts and other treasures, or just sit and stitch Sashiko . A different technique will be taught each month.
Meet with other quilters who share the love of all things Japanese – there will be show and tell each month, plenty of inspiration, many stories and some months we will eat Japanese food – it will be fun!

Buck A Block
Would you like to make a quilt for just $4 per block. All you need to do is visit the shop once a month to pick up your pattern and fabric for $4. The pattern uses Thangles so the purchase of one packet of Thangles is advised and this will be enough to make the entire quilt. There are several choices, Brights, Bali, Autumn and Japanese Indigo (due to the higher cost of Japanese fabrics this will be $5 per month).
The blocks will be available for the Calendar Month except for January which will be continue to be available through February to give you time to get started. If you are new to Thangles, visit the shop and see the samples.
